Touching the heart "Open-Source": Linux, Arduino, Tesla, etc.

From Linux to Arduino to Tesla, there are tons of tools and technologies revolutionizing the entire humanity.

In general, Open-Source is an idea to allow anyone to use, modify, and distribute any tools/software/technology (which is publically available) for some purpose under some unrestricted licenses/permissions.

Let's talk about Open-Source Software (OSS) specifically. RedHat defines, "Open source software is code that is designed to be publicly accessible—anyone can see, modify, and distribute the code as they see fit. Open source software is developed in a decentralized and collaborative way, relying on peer review and community production."

With the community-first philosophy, there are leading technologies empowering engineers, and aiding life to sustainable engineering benefiting people.

There are ways to serve Humanity, Technology is one of them, and Open-Source is the "Heart"

Real-World Open-Source Technologies Examples

Can't mention each and every amazing open-source tool, and technology, but here are a few of them mentioned with repositories, and their vision is as follows:

Linux

The art by Linus Torvalds, Linux is the largest open-source software in the world and made a major contribution to today's Information Technology world.

Most of the web servers are hosted on top of Linux. Android, a mobile OS based on a modified version of the Linux kernel, and other open-source software.

Arduino

"Arduino software is open source - we believe that it benefits everyone."

Arduino is both open-source software and hardware, an electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software used to build IoT things.

Tesla

"All Our Patent Are Belong To You".

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, on June 12, 2014, mentioned in an official Tesla blog post:

Elon said "Yesterday (before June 12, 2014), there was a wall of Tesla patents in the lobby of our Palo Alto headquarters. That is no longer the case. They have been removed, in the spirit of the open source movement, for the advancement of electric vehicle technology."

"Technology leadership is not defined by patents, which history has repeatedly shown to be small protection indeed against a determined competitor, but rather by the ability of a company to attract and motivate the world’s most talented engineers. We believe that applying the open source philosophy to our patents will strengthen rather than diminish Tesla’s position in this regard."

Community & Collaboration is Power

Open source has become a movement and a way of working that reaches beyond software production. The open-source movement uses the values and decentralized production model of open-source software to find new ways to solve problems in their communities and industries.

As said earlier, Open-Source is the heart of Technology, and one of the great ways to serve Humanity, and benefit people around us.
